WHERE EXAXTLY WILL THEY "HEAD FOR THE EXITS"?

Interesting read in today's Mail Tribune about the Sheriff's Department having to trim 2 million dollars from the budget, and they're going to leave 5 jail positions and 5 patrol positions unfilled. Hoping that this isn't a start of the typical government tactic - money gets tight so we'll cut back on cops, jails, and roads...things everyone wants.

Next question I have: When are ALL salaries at the county going to be frozen? (Danny's too) I say this as it's obvious we have some issues. We're dipping into 6 million dollars of reserves, and the sheriff is involuntarily downsizing. So why any raises, period? No doubt we'd hear words to the effect of "You have to keep raising salaries otherwise our best workers will go elsewhere". In turn, I'd say "Oh Yeah? Where exactly are all these workers headed?"

Think about it, government is running red ink all over the state. Beaverton school district is cutting some 340 positions to fill budget holes. Which government agencies are so flush with cash that they're ready to hire all those Medford and Jackson County public employees, who we're worried about "heading for the door"?

C'mon, the private sector has been in minimal or no raises for several years. Time for our "public servants" to share some of that harsh reality.
