We talked a lot about jury duty today. I consider it enslavement, but not all agree. John sends a rather short email:
"Your feelings about jury duty tells me a lot about your character."
Let me explain.
I believe my constitutional right, and your right to a jury trial, does not entitle me, or anyone else, to enslave another human being in order to service this "right".
Compensate jurors fairly for their very valuable time. Everyone else is paid in that courtroom, except for the jurors. They're forced to do it. We paid them 10 bucks a day back in the 1930's. (a good full day's pay at that time)
If doing the same today would make it too expensive to conduct all those trials, it's an indicatior that it's high time to scale back on all those laws, and get government back to the business of protecting us from direct harm, rather than micro-managing every individual's behavior.
