New Efficient highway 62 bypass. Not so efficient…

So, how was the first official open day of the Rogue Valley Expressway? Here’s an email from listener Ryan and a couple of pics of what he experienced on the expressway.

“Bill,

At 4:30 in the afternoon the traffic was backed up from White City all the way through the new bypass intersection for another almost mile South and it took 12 minutes for me to go 2 miles.  The traffic coming off of the new bypass could not all get off due to the traffic already stacked up on highway 62. We thought traffic was bad before? This is something else. I would sure like to know whose bright idea it was to build a bypass that stops in the middle of another highway?  This is one of those cases that the bike lane was moving faster than the traffic. Lol

Ryan”

8:10 Robert K. Wilcox – Author, Journalist, Screenwriter, Editor and author of  Target: Patton, The Plot to Assassinate General George S. Patton, Target JFK, and many others.

http://www.robertkwilcox.com/

Target Patton: The Plot to Assassinate General George S. Patton unearths and explores new and damning evidence about a multi-faceted assassination plot to kill one of America’s greatest generals, George Patton. In Target Patton noted journalist Robert K. Wilcox reveals gripping revelations about one of America’s greatest tragedies.

Target Patton details Patton’s unstoppable march through Europe and chronicles the hatred and jealousy that it inspired in American, British, and Russian military leaders. Wilcox explores first-hand accounts of the scheming against Patton within General William “Wild Bill” Donovan’s OSS.  He also chronicles the seemingly minor car accident that seriously injured only Patton—and all of the odd inconsistencies in the few accident reports that survived a government purge.

Wilcox is not afraid to expose long hidden documents and accounts that could have cost lives if they had been exposed earlier. He is free to reveal the little known stories and secrets of the key players in the mysterious plot to kill Patton, including:

Patton’s life was threatened earlier in several other odd incidents—he was even warned that his death was being plotted

No one else was severely injured in the minor accident that paralyzed Patton

A Cadillac expert says the historic car that the Patton Museum advertises as the car Patton was riding in—is not really the 1938 Cadillac Patton was in that day

At least 5 known reports about the accident have vanished from government archives

Patton was making a remarkable recovery in a German hospital when he suddenly died

Few people who read this book will ever think of General Patton—and his death—in the same way. And they’ll be hard pressed to deny that Patton’s outspoken criticism of his commanders and the Soviet Union may have cost him his life.

Grab your copy of Target Patton right here.

8:10 Scott Bolton, Pacific Power’s senior Vice President for External Affairs and customer solutions calls the show today.

PacifiCorp has released an updated economic study of its coal fleet that will inform how the company meets the long-term customer energy needs of its customers.

The study was conducted as part of the company’s 2019 Integrated Resource Plan, which is still under development and anticipated to be completed in August. The IRP, which is updated every two years, identifies actions the company anticipates taking over the next 20 years to provide reliable and least-cost electricity to customers.

The study reviewed coal units that are part of PacifiCorp’s broader resource mix to determine if customers would benefit from closing a unit or combination of units earlier than currently planned. Most of the company’s coal units will reach the end of their depreciable lives at different points over the next 20 years.

While no resource decision will be made ahead of completion of the 2019 IRP, the study identified potential benefits for customers through early retirement of some coal units.

“We continuously examine the costs and benefits of how the company generates electricity to ensure we are making the best decisions for customers,” said Rick Link, PacifiCorp vice president of resource planning and acquisitions. “The study reflects the ongoing changing economics for coal driven by market forces.”

For purposes of the study, the company examined whether customers would benefit if units are retired as early as 2022 and replaced with other resources. The timing and sequencing of any actual coal unit closures will ultimately be determined by a range of factors that also include workforce and community transition considerations.

The units the study identifies as being less economic to operate beyond 2022 than alternatives and are candidates for early retirement are:

  • Naughton Units 1 and 2 in Wyoming.
  • Jim Bridger Units 1 and 2 in Wyoming. PacifiCorp is a majority owner and the operator of these units.

Next steps. The company anticipates issuing a preferred portfolio for input from regulators and stakeholders before submitting a final plan to state regulators in August.

The company will also work to ensure communities and employees that would be affected by the potential early plant closures are informed and involved in the process.

“We understand the impact of these resource decisions on customers, employees and communities and are committed to ensuring these impacts are known and planned for,” said Link.

The completed coal unit analysis can be seen through the following link

6:35: Jennifer Lawrence, National Spokeswoman and Communications Director of the hugely sucessful border wall GoFundMe campaign We Build The Wall.

Soon, construction will begin on the southern U.S. border with Mexico by the private sector. Also, it seems that Pope Francis is funneling money from the Catholic Church into caravans headed for the U.S. Is this right on his part? We’ll discuss it with Jennifer.

“Pope Francis is sending a half million dollars to help migrants in Mexico who are trying to reach the United States, according to a report Saturday from Vatican News.

“Pope Francis has donated 500,000 dollars to assist migrants in Mexico. The funds, from the Peter’s Pence collections, will be distributed among 27 projects promoted by sixteen Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, which requested assistance in continuing to provide food, lodging, and basic necessities to the migrants,” the report declares.

The article notes that in recent months, “thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometres on foot and with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.”

We Build The Wall, Inc. was created by Brian Kolfage to continue to raise private money from everyday Americans to help build a wall on the southern border. Misreports incorrectly stated that the money was being returned – that is not the case!

Setting the Record Straight

  • To date, he has raised approximately US$22 million to privately fund the wall.
  • Once the GoFundMe transitioned to a 501c4, all donors were contacted and asked if they wanted their donation to be refunded or if they want it to count toward the new “WeBuildTheWall, Inc.”
  • The default setting was that if 90 days went by without confirmation, the donor would be automatically refunded so as to ensure their money was allocated with their consent.

When will construction begin?

Our team has already begun the process of identifying zones along the Southern Border that are known to be high-traffic areas for illegal crossings and smuggling operations. We are presently working with US Customs and Border Patrol experts and other US Border Security Service professionals who are highly experienced in these matters. We are beginning extensive due diligence and the commencement of feasibility studies and will be engaging leading experts in a variety of fields necessary to construct our Border Wall. These professionals will continue to provide us with critical guidance on the legal, engineering, contracting, environmental, accounting, maintenance, and real estate issues required to build a Wall along the Southern Border.

About WeBuildTheWall

WeBuildTheWall Inc. evolved after Brian Kolfage launched a GoFundMe campaign at www.gofundme.com/thetrumpwall on December 17, 2018. By December 31, 2018, the campaign raised over $18 Million. Following this instant success, Mr. Kolfage consulted with some of the country’s leading professionals in law, politics, national security, construction, and finance concerning the best and most direct method to succeed in his mission.

This team spent countless hours over the holidays reviewing the many issues and hurdles to realizing the construction of a Southern Border Wall. Unanimously, they concluded that the federal government wouldn’t be able to timely accept the donations or directly apply the funds to the construction of a Wall, that We the People and the We Build the Wall Team can better utilize the donated funds to build sections of actual wall on the Southern Border, and the Team could complete significant segments of the wall in less time, and for far less money, than the federal government, while meeting or exceeding regulatory, engineering, and environmental requirements.
