FROM OREGON FIREARMS

“This is a day we won’t soon forget.”

Those bold words closed a press release signed by Republican leaders Tim Knopp and Vikki Breese Iverson.

That was yesterday. Today… they forgot.

While there was no Senate Floor session, the Oregon House, with the assistance of House Republicans, raced through over 30 bills.

The House Republicans did not require that the bills be read in their entirety, a tool they have to grind the dangerous business of the Democrats to a crawl.

It’s Friday. At least one Republican complained that they “want to go home.”

We think that’s a great idea. As long as they don’t come back.

For whatever reason, the Oregon House Republicans are assisting the Democrats in moving their agenda along.

Any delay in the gun bill votes won’t mean anything if the Democrats are able to pass the rest of their agenda and then force a vote on the gun bills later.

The Democrats are not stupid.  They can look at a calendar and they know when they will need to get their bills to the floor in time to eviscerate gun rights in Oregon.

“Democrats insist they are not concerned about running out of time to pass their priorities before a mandatory June 25 adjournment.”

“In the House, Rayfield on Wednesday agreed to delay a vote on House Bill 2005, a bill to outlaw so-called ghost guns, increase the age to possess many guns to 21, and potentially increase the number of public places where concealed handguns are prohibited. In exchange for postponing a vote on the bill to early May, Republicans agreed to ease up on delay maneuvers that some in the party had touted earlier in the day.”

“These are delay tactics,” said Lieber, a Portland Democrat, “and it’s not going to interfere with the Democratic agenda.”

Now is not the time to relax. Most people have told us they are getting NO response from leadership to their requests that they do their job. It doesn’t matter. They don’t have to return your calls or emails. They just have to get them.

Remember, they have many ways to filter and ignore emails.  But even if your calls go to a voice mail, someone has to listen to at least part of them before they can file them away.  So don’t stop calling and reminding Tim Knopp and Vikki Breese Iverson that long after they have forgotten, you will remember.

6:35 STEPHAN TALTY, author of  KORESH: The True Story of David Koresh and the Tragedy at Waco is the first comprehensive account of David Koresh’s life, his road to Waco, and the rise of government mistrust in America, from a master of narrative nonfiction. This spring marks the 30th anniversary of the siege at Waco.

Stephan Talty’s previous work includes The Black Hand, Agent Garbo, Empire of Blue Water and A Captain’s Duty (the basis for the Academy Award-winning film Captain Phillips). Now, with his signature immersive storytelling, Talty pulls back the curtain on David Koresh-the man behind the myths, rumors, and conjecture that have shaped our understanding of the Branch Davidians.

No other event in the last fifty years is shrouded in myth like the 1993 siege of the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas. Today, we remember this moment for the 76 people, including 20 children, who died in the fire; for its inspiration of the Oklahoma City bombing; and for the wave of anti-government militarism that followed. What we understand far less is what motivated the Davidians’ enigmatic leader, David Koresh.

Drawing on first-time, exclusive interviews with Koresh’s family and survivors of the siege, bestselling author Talty paints a psychological portrait of this infamous icon of the 90s. Born Vernon Howell into the hyper-masculine world of central Texas in the 60s, Koresh experienced a childhood riven with abuse and isolation. He found a new version of himself in the halls of his local church, and love in the fundamentalist sect of the Branch Davidians. Later, with a new name and professed prophetic powers, Koresh ushered in a new era for the Davidians that prized his own sexual conquest as much as his followers’ faith. As one survivor said, “What better way for a worthless child to feel worth than to become God?”

Talty reveals how Koresh’s fixation on holy war, which would deliver the Davidians to their reward and confirm himself as Christ, collided with his paranoid obsession with firearms to destructive effect. Their deadly, 51-day standoff with the embattled FBI and ATF, he shows, embodied an anti-government ethic that continues to resonate today. Now, thirty years after that unforgettable moment, KORESH presents the tragedy at Waco-and the government mistrust it inspired-in its fullest context yet.

Money quote: Americans, on average, are good and kind people. They’d prefer to live and let live. But the problem with that becomes obvious in situations like these. You have to consign yourself to living with strange males undressing around your daughters and people asking you to pluck out your lying eyes.

The Obesity Defense

The defense of a trans-identified male charged with indecent exposure argued that body fat is a form of covering.

Darren “Rachel” Glines in screen captures from now-deleted videos on his Youtube channel. (Reduxx)

Recently, Darren Glines, a man who identifies as a woman named “Rachel,” was charged with three counts of indecent exposure after allegedly stripping naked in front of women and girls at a YMCA in Xenia, Ohio.

Things took an even stranger turn when his defense argued that Glines couldn’t have exposed anyone to anything because “the whole genital area was covered by body fat.” Glines is morbidly obese.

The case highlights a problem that will not soon abate: the invasion of men identifying as women into female spaces, whether that is the octagon or the locker room where young girls change. If they get away with it, it’s typically thanks to state and federal anti-discrimination laws.

Upgrade to paid

The charges against Glines stem from at least three complaints made by people at the facility between 2021 and 2022. Citing court documents, WHIO reported that people had complained about “seeing a naked male in the female’s locker room.” Court documents also state juvenile girls were present during one of the incidents, according to WDTN.

In a police report reviewed by WLWT, a witnesses said she saw “a completely naked man” who was “facing away from his locker” and “completely exposed to the rest of the locker area.” She was with her two teenage daughters, a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, at the time.

The YMCA’s initial response was less than stellar. One of the women who complained told the Xenia City Council president, Williams Urshcel, about her unpleasant experience.

“So she went to the front desk and said, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you know what’s going on, but there’s a naked man in there,’” Urshcel said. “She was informed, ‘No this is actually a woman, and that you shouldn’t be disturbed by this.’”

People like Glines have, to some extent, become a protected class. That’s not to say they can’t be held accountable. But they’re not exactly the scrappy underdogs they’re made out to be and typically have the support of important institutions. Indeed, the YMCA of Greater Dayton said in a defensive statement about Glines that it “adheres to Ohio and Federal laws and antidiscrimination laws which allow all members access to its facilities and programs, regardless of religion, national origin, race, color, sex, age, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.”

Glines stood trial on March 21. The defense went all in on the argument that although Glines had been completely undressed during all three incidents, body fat acted as a kind of cloak of modesty. The defense can be heard using this line against a witness in audio obtained by Contra. The recording was made by the Xenia Municipal Court and purchased by the family of one of the victims. It appears here with their consent.

Listen now · 0:46

Defense: “You said you didn’t see any male parts, so it’s fair to say you don’t know whether or not this individual even has male parts.”

Witness: “Correct.”

Defense: “And it’s also fair to say that the whole genital area was covered by body fat.”

Witness: “Yes.”

Defense: “And therefore it would be fair to say that you don’t know if there was some kind of article of clothing or something otherwise hiding any kind of parts.”

Witness: “Well, I do know because I saw their side. Like I saw everything.”

Defense: “I’m saying a strapless piece of cloth. I mean, you don’t know because the whole genital area was covered, right?”

Witness: “I mean, you can make that assumption.”

Defense: “Right. So, again, it’s fair to say you don’t know whether something like that was there.”

Witness: “I saw the individual naked. Like there was nothing on the individual.”

Again, this appears to be their key argument. “Exposure is an inescapable and necessary element on its own that the state is required to prove,” and there’s “not one iota of evidence” to support the state’s position, claimed Lauren Dever, Glines’ attorney, whose Facebook indicates she is married to a woman.

The prosecution challenged that argument in its final brief filed last week. “Logic and common sense dictate that morbid obesity does not constitute a form of clothing,” the filing reads.

It’s interesting how that argument mirrors the logic of transgenderism. The witnesses are supposed to pretend they did not see Glines in the nude like they are supposed to pretend that what they see when they look at Glines is a real woman. Transgenderism is ultimately imperialism of the mind, a struggle to conquer reality that requires subjugating the imagination.

Americans, on average, are good and kind people. They’d prefer to live and let live. But the problem with that becomes obvious in situations like these. You have to consign yourself to living with strange males undressing around your daughters and people asking you to pluck out your lying eyes.

CHAMPION SWIMMER RILEY GAINES ASSAULTED BY THOSE FROM SHALLOW GENE POOL

She speaks the truth and should be Lauded

PURCELLVILLE, VA— Championship swimmer Riley Gaines, a biological female, was recently assaulted at San Francisco State University for daring to advocate banning biological men from women’s collegiate sports.  Ms. Gaines was punched and locked in a classroom for several hours.

To add insult to injury, the university issued a statement calling the demonstration “peaceful” without apologizing to Riley Gaines.

“This is the prime example of the thinking in our world today: Men can call themselves women and violent uprisings can be called ‘peaceful’ no matter what the facts say,” said Bethany and Ryan Bomberger, co-founders of the Radiance Foundation. “We thought women’s rights were human rights.”

Riley Gaines is scheduled to speak at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo on April 13.  She deserves a wide audience and a safe environment.

“She is a leader and a speaker and an accomplished athlete who deserves respect.  The facts she speaks are undeniable.  The emotional, dangerous outburst she faced reveals the mind of those who would rather beat you into submission than have a discussion,” said Mr. and Mrs. Bomberger.

The Bombergers’ new illustrated book She is She (Bara Publishing, March 2023) is a line in the sand for those who want to confuse or bully children into accepting radical, experimental and psychologically harmful ideologies. Age-appropriate and written in simple rhyme, She is She celebrates the virtue of femininity and roles girls and women fulfill: mothers, sisters, daughters, trailblazers, and others. She is She also presents Biblical and scientific facts.

She is She is currently available on Amazon.com and the Radiance Foundation website.

6:35 Craig Bannister, blog editor and reporter for www.CNSnews.com

There was a time when the players were juiced. Then, the ball was juiced. Now, they’re saying the planet is juiced. new study from Dartmouth College claims that global warming will be responsible for “several hundred” more homeruns in the coming years, writes Craig Bannister of CNS News.

The study hinges on the fact that baseballs fly farther in warmer temperatures. It then blames “human-caused global cooling” for a reduced number of home runs between 1962 and 1995 and follows up by insisting that “improved air quality” is causing global warming and thus a greater number of home runs.

Craig, however, notes that “despite any warming of the climate, MLB batters hit more than seven hundred fewer home runs in 2022 than they did the year before.”

(From Kevin Starrett) The Time Has Come. HB 2005 could be voted in on the House Floor as early as tomorrow. It received its “Second Reading” today. That was the last stop before a vote. There is no more time for games and no more time for excuses. Under this bill all AR-15 style firearms, and countless others no doubt, will be banned from sale or transfer in Oregon. Possession of any AR-15 style rifle will be outlawed.  This is because the geniuses in the Oregon Legislature have redefined what a “receiver” (meaning a “firearm”) is. Now, previously-unregulated parts of firearms will require serial numbers  that “have been imprinted … by a federally licensed firearm manufacturer, importer or dealer, or a gunsmith with a federal firearms license, in accordance with federal law.” But Federal law does not require serial numbers on the parts of firearms this law now regulates. The bill ends Second Amendment Rights for 18-20 year olds despite the fact that the Democrats KNOW this has been found to be unconstitutional. Furthermore it will ban licensed concealed carry in vast parts of the state since any government owned building and nearby property can be declared off limits. If you have ever attended a rally at the Capitol you know that all the buildings that surround the park across the street from the Capitol building are state buildings. They will certainly soon all be off limits. Licensed, armed gun owners will essentially be banned from any rallies just as they have been banned from the Capitol Building itself. We are going to make this crystal clear. If the Republicans are on the floor when this bill is voted on, it will pass and anything the Republicans say about it won’t mean a damn thing. They can whine all they want about how they will “strongly oppose” it and give whatever fiery speeches they like. But they will have essentially voted “YES” simply by being there. House Republican Leader Vikki Breese Iverson has just declared her “friendship” with the people who are pushing this insane elimination of your rights. “I think we have formed a friendship if you will,” House Republican Leader Vikki Breese-Iverson said of her political dynamic with House Speaker Dan Rayfield, D-Corvallis. If Iverson allows her members to be on the House Floor for a vote on this bill it will be obvious that her “friendship” with the gun grabbers is far more important to her than the rights of the people who elected Republicans. This is Iverson’s last chance to step up. Please call her today and tell her your rights are more important than her “friendship” with the people who are destroying this state. Vikki Breese Iverson503-986-1459https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/breese-iverson You can view this post in a browser here: https://www.oregonfirearms.org/times-up

6:35 Stephen Willeford ( www.theBarefootDefender.com ) represents the Gun Owners of America, www.GunOwners.org  and is known around the country as the “good guy with the gun” for helping stop the Sutherland Springs, Texas mass shooting in 2017. It was the biggest in the history of Texas. We’re talking about  all 2nd Amendment issues, as well as the importance of the Gun Owners of America, which filed the lawsuit against Oregon’s Measure 114.

Victims and Hero of Sutherland Springs Shooting Disappointed With Government’s Settlement

Gun Owners of America’s Stephen Willeford doesn’t believe the victims or their families received what they truly deserved.

While the Department of Justice is content with the resolution, some believe justice hasn’t truly been served when it comes to the victims of the 2017 Sutherland Springs church shooting.

Per this report from The Hill, the DOJ will provide a $144.5 million settlement with the victims, bringing its drawn-out legal battle with both them and their families to a close. This comes after a federal judge deemed the government responsible for the attack, failing to disclose the criminal history of the shooter, Devin Kelley, to the FBI.

Kelley opened fire in the church on November 5, 2017, killing 26 people and injuring 22 before being stopped by Stephen Willeford and later ending his life following a car crash.

Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta spoke on the settlement. “No words or amount of money can diminish the immense tragedy of the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs. Today’s announcement brings the litigation to a close, ending a painful chapter for the victims of this unthinkable crime.” It sounds as if the government is trying to put a smiley face on the whole matter.

But why does it feel like the government have to compound their suffering? Joining us now to discuss this further is Stephen Willeford, the “hero with a gun” that stopped the shooter back in Sutherland Springs. Willeford currently serves as spokesman for the Gun Owners of America, firmly believing in the rights of all citizens to bear arms. His expertise will prove useful in this matter.

Jim Belushi

By Dennis Powers

If you’ve seen actor Jim Belushi in town–whether at a restaurant, or even at the Pear Blossom Parade–then you know that he’s here, having built community ties, constructed a house complex on the Rogue River, and with a Discovery channel feature about his farm, “Growing Belushi.”

Jim was born in Chicago in 1954–the third of four children–to Agnes Demetri (Samaras) and Adam Anastos Belushi, who ran a restaurant. His father was an Albanian immigrant and his mother of Albanian descent. His brother, John, was born five years before and the family moved one year later to Wheaton, Illinois.

Both with strong interests in acting careers, the older John started off. He performed in summer stock, worked improv comedy, and was in the famous ensemble, Second City, in Chicago where he perfected his “gonzo” comedic style. Later, he moved to New York City where he had his big break on the TV variety series, Saturday Night Live (1975), which made him a star.

During this time–and after Wheaton Central High School—Jim transferred from a small college to Southern Illinois University, where he earned a degree in speech and theater arts. After graduating from college, Belushi in 1977 also joined the Second City comedy troupe, which proved to be the major launching pad for his career.

In 1978, producer Gary Marshall saw one of his Second City performances and hired him for his first TV role: a part on the NBC sitcom, Who’s Watching the Kids? A year later, Jim landed a part on a second sitcom, the CBS show Working Stiffs.

That same year, his brother John stole the spotlight with his role as the notorious, beer-swilling “Bluto” in the box-office hit of National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978). With Dan Aykroyd, John hit more fame in John Landis’ The Blue Brothers (1980), with following films such as Continental Divide (1981) and Neighbors (1981). John tragically died in 1982 from a drug overdose.

In 1983, Jim followed in John’s footsteps and joined Saturday Night Live. Audiences loved his impersonations of popular celebrities as Hulk Hogan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. His popularity on SNL led to roles in films, such as About Last Night (1986), “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (1986), “K-9” (1989) and “Curly Sue” (1991). From there, he continued with more TV and film (now more than a dozen movies), including sequels to K-9 that went directly to video.

Belushi was the star of According to Jim–a popular prime-time TV sitcom about a suburban father–that appeared on ABC from 2001 to 2009. Since then, he was quite active on Broadway, his blues band, and TV.

The connection here came from visiting a friend and a love of this area. The construction of his house in 2015 became the feature of a reality TV series, Building Belushi, on the “Do It Yourself” network. The six-episode series followed Jim and his team as they built on 13 acres (93 acres in total) with 1800 feet of river frontage on the former 1930s-era Elks picnic grounds off Agate road, some two miles north of White City.

Belushi had bought the land two years before and constructed a 1200 sq. ft., two-level “main house”, 650 sq. ft. “master suite and bathroom”, and a 1600 sq. ft. “bunk house” that by itself has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths–all with sweeping views of the river or surrounding countryside–not to mention 7,400 sq. ft. of raised decks with walkways. The grounds include a rebuilt stage, garage, barbeque pit, benches and tables that dated back to the Elks summer picnics.

As his subcontractor connections were also involved in the Holly Theatre renovation, Jim toured the facilities, became fascinated by it, and was named honorary chairman of the Holly Theatre Restoration Project. Built in 1930, the 1,000-seat Holly is being restored now (which is another story).

Joining the restoration funding efforts, Belushi performed benefit concerts with his blues band not only for the Holly, but also for rebuilding the Butte Creek Mill, among others. If that wasn’t enough, his “Growing Belushi,” series is in its third season. This Discovery series focuses on the highs and lows of growing cannabis at the property, from having lost to mold 300 pounds of bud (a quarter of his first crop) to working with 50 dispensaries throughout the state. Having bought land next to his, the legal cannabis operation has grown to availability in nine states (more on the come), in addition to his music, shows, and regional interest. Yes, Jim Belushi is here and in action!
