7:10 Brad Bennington is the President of the Builders Association of Southern Oregon

8:35 Terence P. Jeffrey is the editor-in-chief of CNSNews.com

Morality and responsibility are the cornerstones to establishing freedom. Terry Jeffrey in his latest column asks “What would John Adams think if he were told about the recent mass murders in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas? Would he think they were manifestations of a gun problem in America or a moral problem?”

Throughout his life John Adams observed that responsibility and morality allowed for freedom to flourish. Terry notes in his piece that  Adams wrote :

“The foundations of national morality must be laid in private families,” Adams went on to say in this same diary entry. “In vain are schools, academies, and universities instituted, if loose principles and licentious habits are impressed upon children in their earliest years,” he said. “The mothers are the earliest and most important instructors of youth … The vices and examples of the parents cannot be concealed from the children. How is it possible that children can have any just sense of the sacred obligations of morality and religion if, from their earliest infancy, they learn that their mothers live in habitual infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant infidelity to their mothers.”

Terry writes that “To pass the American tradition of freedom down to future generations we must also pass down the moral and religious foundations needed to sustain it.”

6:35 William B. Allen—editor of THE STATE OF BLACK AMERICA: Progress, Pitfalls, and the Promise of the Republic—(www.EncounterBooks.com

THE STATE OF BLACK AMERICA: Progress, Pitfalls, and the Promise of the Republic (Encounter Books, May 24, 2022).  Editor William B. Allen—resident scholar and the former chief operating officer of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE)—has assembled an incisive collection of essays that reveals the past, present, and future strength of black America as the best hope for a nation that has lost faith in itself.

In a nation that is tearing itself apart over race, trying to speak honestly about the state of black America is a perilous task.  Charges of “systemic racism” and proliferating identity politics have been turned loose—undermining American unity while seeking to replace our shared values and commitment to individual rights with a new woke, antiracist ideology.  In the process, the real lived experience of black Americans remains overlooked.  Is America the land of white oppression and structural racism featured in the 1619 Project, or the imperfect land of liberty and boundless opportunity envisioned by Frederick Douglass?

In recent years, straight talk about the state of black America has become dangerous.  Candor and thoughtfulness are often drowned by hysteria, expediency, and sentimentalism.  THE STATE OF BLACK AMERICA seeks to restore these sorely needed virtues to the present discourse, assembling a company of scholars who confront our nation’s troubled racial history even as they bear witness to the promise the American heritage contains for blacks.

8:10 Congressman Cliff Bentz talks with Bill about the Ukraine Aid vote, what about the Klamath Dam removal issue, and the 2nd Amendment attacks post-Uvalde school shooting.
