Two of the most important cases in the Supreme Court’s upcoming term involve voting integrity and gun rights. Last week, Landmark Legal Foundation filed briefs in both of these cases.
Republican National Committee v. Mi Familia Vota
Republican National Committee v. Mi Familia Vota concerns Arizona laws designed to strengthen voter-registration verification and remove non-citizens from voter rolls. The Supreme Court granted review on June 29, 2026. The principal questions are whether the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) or a prior federal consent decree prevents Arizona from requiring applicants using the state’s voter-registration form to provide satisfactory evidence of U.S. citizenship, and whether the NVRA prohibits Arizona from conducting programs within 90 days of a federal election to identify and remove non-citizen registrants.
The dispute arose after Arizona enacted H.B. 2492 and H.B. 2243, laws that imposed additional citizenship-verification requirements and authorized election officials to review voter-registration databases for non-citizens. Lower courts concluded that portions of the laws conflicted with the NVRA and with a 2018 consent decree governing Arizona registration practices.
The case will have nationwide consequences because it will clarify the extent of state authority to verify voter eligibility and maintain voter rolls while operating under federal election statutes. It may also determine how much weight federal courts should give to consent decrees that limit later state legislative action.

Viramontes v. Cook County
Viramontes v. Cook County presents one of the most important Second Amendment questions since New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022). The question presented is whether the Second and Fourteenth Amendments protect the right to possess AR-15 platform rifles and similar semiautomatic firearms.
The case follows conflicting lower-court decisions on state and local bans targeting so-called assault weapons. Courts in Illinois and Connecticut upheld restrictions on AR-15-style rifles, while critics argue that such firearms are among the most commonly owned weapons in the United States and therefore fall within the Second Amendment’s protections.
The Court’s ruling will likely determine whether governments may continue broad prohibitions on popular semiautomatic rifles or whether such bans are inconsistent with the historical-tradition test announced in Bruen. As a result, Viramontes could become the Court’s most significant firearms decision in years and reshape Second Amendment jurisprudence nationwide.

Their actions indicate a deference to Islam that seems decidedly out of step with their aggressive claims about gender equality (and indeed about female supremacism). Feminist women in the West exhibit a toxic love affair with Islam that demonstrates how their rhetoric about women’s empowerment is ultimately hollow. Nowhere is this more evident than in their eagerness to wear the hijab in the company of Muslim men. As you know, the US Supreme Court has finally agreed to take up a case on whether or not our most common firearms are protected under the Constitution. The case is “Viramontes v. Cook County”.
Oral arguments are scheduled to take place during the fall of the 2026–2027 Supreme Court term (which opens October 5, 2026). An exact calendar date for the argument session has not yet been announced.
Clearly, this will be a landmark decision for the future of gun rights in Oregon, but will also have an immediate impact on nearby states that have bans on conventional firearms like Washington and California.
While recent Supreme Court decisions have been ignored by lower courts, such as the one which heard our lawsuit against Measure 114, a decision that states that modern semi-automatic firearms are protected nationwide would be a massive victory. It is also likely that a positive ruling would have a ripple effect on bans of standard magazines, such as the one in Oregon’s pending Measure 114.
We are happy to inform you that the Oregon Firearms Educational Foundation is part of a coalition of gun rights organizations that have submitted an amicus brief in the case.
The arguments presented in the brief are the most commonsense defense of military firearms for civilians. It’s astonishing how often they are shied away from.
